What if adopting a dog prevented your children from developing a disease?

If you needed another reason to succumb to adopting a dog, here’s another.

For once, these cat turds won’t be able to show off. No, this time we give space to dogs, these good big fluffy ones, which in addition to being among the best animals on Earth (only this) would allow the little ones not to develop, in particular, a particularly painful disease for them. those who carry it.

Dogs and Crohn’s disease

This is a recent study published by Mount Sinai Hospital and presented during Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2022, which would show that young children growing up with a dog may have some protection against Crohn’s disease, a widespread inflammatory bowel disease.

Williams Turpin, study physician and lead author and associate researcher at Mount Sinai Hospital and the University of Toronto, said:

Our study appears to join others who have explored the “hygiene hypothesis” which suggests that lack of exposure to microbes early in life can lead to a lack of immune regulation against environmental microbes.

According to the study, children who had a dog between the ages of 5 and 15 would have healthier leaky gut, reducing the development of inflammatory bowel disease. The association between this healthy leaky gut, combined with the balance between the body’s immune response and the microbes in the gut, could help prevent Crohn’s disease, a disease that most often develops in young adults and whose symptoms include diarrhea. , abdominal pain and weight loss.

Dr. Turpin also adds, regarding these stupid cats:

We haven’t seen the same results with cats, although we’re still trying to figure out why. This may be because dog owners hang out with their pets more often or live in areas with more green space, which has already been shown to protect against Crohn’s disease.

This is another good reason to adopt a dog for your children, don’t you think? On the other hand, do not joke: we do not adopt a dog and then abandon him, aware of the burden that this entails, in the long run we will never be able to say it enough.
