EXCLUSIVE: Deadline could reveal first English clip of German director Sophie Linenbaum’s lively first feature film simpleKarlovy Vary ahead of the international premiere of the Crystal Globe competition on Sunday (3 July).

The film comes to the Czech festival from its world premiere at the Munich Film Festival in Germany, where Linenbaum won the Best Director award in the New Talents of German Cinema sidebar on Friday (July 2). It also won the Best First Feature Award at the annual New Faces Awards in Germany in late June.

Social satire contrasts with the world of fantasy cinema where society is divided into three main classes, including minor characters, protagonists and antagonists.

Emerging German actress Fine Sedel plays an ambitious young woman who wants to go from secondary character to protagonist. She is a bold move to ban him to the suburbs. Veteran German actor Jules Beauvais plays the girl’s mother, who has spent her life as a secondary character.
