How the tie went from the accessory of powerful men to those of a degenerate youth

How the tie went from the accessory of powerful men to those of a degenerate youth

Even at the top of the G7, men of power no longer necessarily wear ties. While fashion weeks are around the corner, young people of all genres engage with fluidity, in the first or second degree.

The G7 Summit took place in Germany in Elmau from 25 to 28 June which brought together Charles Michel (President of the European Council), Mario Draghi (President of the Council of Ministers of Italy), Justin Trudeau (Prime Minister of Canada), Emmanuel Macron (President of the French Republic), Olaf Scholz (Federal Chancellor of Germany ), Joe Biden (President of the United States), Boris Johnson (Prime Minister of the United Kingdom), Fumio Kishida (Prime Minister of Japan) and Ursula von der Leyen (President of the European Commission).

Besides the fact that there is only one woman in this meeting of Western leaders, another detail made an impression during an official photo shoot: the absence of a tie around the neck of these gentlemen. This surprised even the very serious media specializing in the thick of the fashion industry, Fashion business.

Are the bonds dead, dead dead?

From the prerogative of powerful men to the fashion accessory of degenerate youth

In a disproportionately alarming article about a prestigious hotel school, Point protested in particular in May 2022:

A few months ago, EHL experienced a small palace revolution. Some rules of the ‘guide to professional appearance’ – this breviary distributed to all students seemed immutable – have been revised to keep up with the times. Wearing a tie, judged too kindIt’s not necessary any more.

Indeed, what is giving up the ghost is rather the monopoly of the powerful on this accessorywho now has to share it with a young man who plays with gender codes.

The tie invades women's necks for autumn-winter 2022-2023

We have seen it on several catwalks of the spring-summer 2022 and autumn-winter 2022-2023 collections such as Louis Vuitton and Gucci, a more or less first grade BCBG version or, on the contrary, how to snub the exclusive historical preppy style.

In 2022 the tie is therefore worn in a more inclusive and relaxed way. With a very loose knot and / or chosen too loose to be taken seriously, like in the reboot of the series gossip Girl For instance. You can also wear it as a practical-ironic belt over a blazer, jacket or even a dress.

In short, the tie no longer fits today as part of the mandatory uniform to make one’s male power visible at work. Which now allows him even more to adapt to all necks, for all genres, just to add some fluidity in these troubled times.
