Iranian teenagers refuse to wear headscarves during a demonstration and it is outrageous!

In Iran, a gathering of young skateboarding teenagers is creating controversy. In question? Their clothes would be too “westernized”.

Loose shorts and tees for boys; tight tops, bare arms and bare hair for girls … that’s what you see inside a 45-second video that has been circulating on social media since June 23, 2022. A usual parade in clothes during a gathering of teenagers… Well, not in Iran!

Indeed, those western-style teenagersgathered in Shiraz on June 21 for the “Go Skateboarding Day”, an international day for the promotion of skateboarding organized by the International Association of Skateboarding Companies, illustrate everything that the Islamic Republic of Iran tries to deny its young people.

Five people arrested among the organizers of the event

This is the reason The prosecutor of the city of Shiraz Mostafa Bahraini announced the arrest of five people, as reported by France 24 on 30 June. He claimed they were just the organizers of the demonstration and not teenagers, as the rumors suggest.

However, No details were disclosed on the reasons given during the arrest, nor on the identity or situation of those arrested. Also according to France 24, the Attorney General of the Islamic Republic, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, assured that “People abroad have a mission to organize these events and they are paid for it. “

This did not prevent the director of the local branch of the Iranian skateboarding federation from being removed from his post … It also forced the local authorities of Shiraz at closing bars and bookstores frequented by young peopleaccording to Iran Wire.

In Iran, girls must wear the veil from the age of 9!

In the Islamic Republic of Iran, anything that closely or remotely symbolizes Western life is highly devalued. For instance, any gathering between men and women, outside of marriage, is prohibited. This also applies to minors. Furthermore, the schools are not mixed and girls forced to wear the veil from the age of nine.

This scandal is not the first of its kind … In 2018, several women had danced – which obviously forbade them in public – in front of Margoon Falls. This tourist hotspot in the country was then closed by the authorities.

Rebelote in 2019, a woman was sentenced to prison after singing alone, once again in public, on a tourist site. That same year, several teenagers were also harassed by Iranian police following … a water gun fight in a park! In short, as the Iranian feminist and essayist Chahdortt Djavann would say in her book Veiled whores will never go to heaven :

“One little thing makes you a whore, in this country, Donna, as soon as you get noticed, for whatever reason, you have to be a whore. A virtuous woman is an invisible woman. “
