Gender stereotypes stand up to science. Women would represent only 34% of the signatories of scientific publications … This figure comes from an American study published June 29, 2022 in the journal Nature, which analyzed, crossed and verified in four years, more than 40,000 articles and 7,000 patents from over 10,000 research groups, for a total of 120,000 researchers.
The study finds thisa woman is also 13% less likely than a man to be mentioned in a scientific article and 58% in a patent, and this, even if he collaborated. Raviv Murciano-Goroff, co-author of the study and professor of economics at Boston University, points out this this phenomenon is observed in all scientific disciplines, at all levels of responsibility and regardless of age of the woman. He specifies:
“Young graduates clearly see that they have less recognition than young graduates, and that this also applies to senior researchers. “

Gender inequalities in laboratories and scientific discoveries
In the world of science, even if women are progressively affirming themselves, they remain subject to discrimination, more or less explicit, which affects the role assigned to them. There is no parity in the assignment of responsibilities within the laboratories. This is observed in the columns of Figaror, Alexandra Palt, President of the L’Oréal Foundation (which works to promote women in science in collaboration with Unesco):
“Only 14% of important positions are held by women which constitutes a flagrant inequality! “
And that’s not all. As added, nearby FigaroOhFrançoise Combes, astronomer at the Paris Observatory: “Women are also less recognized in great scientific discoveries than men”. If masculinity still reigns supreme over the macrocosm of science, researchers are not done fighting. Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed: even sexism and discrimination against women?
