The future of the El Guna Film Festival in Egypt is uncertain, following the sudden cancellation of the previously announced sixth edition, which was supposed to take place from 13-22 October.

The festival was launched by Egyptian tycoon Nagib Saviris in 2017 and takes place in the luxurious El Guna resort on the Red Sea, created by his brother Samih Saviris.

Its development from the ground up over five years was led by respected Arab cinema expert Intishal Al Tamim, who was awarded the credible International Festival.

Stormy Clouds has begun to reunite at the top of the festival after an exciting fifth edition last October, marked by a series of disasters and controversies.

They lit a fire in their main outdoor hearth a few hours before opening night; Arrest and deportation of a Palestinian festival guest at Cairo airport, political reaction to the Egyptian film hyacinths And the resignation of the artistic director Amir Ramses a few hours after closing.

At the time, rumors were circulating that the Saviris family were on the verge of dismantling the festival due to the political consequences of some of these events.

Shortly after the fifth edition, a statement setting dates for the next three years contradicts the rumors, even though Monday’s announcement suggests a revision is underway.
