The ice has broken: Elon Musk has his first meeting with Twitter staff

Elon Musk, who is planning to buy Twitter, held an online meeting with more than eight thousand employees of the social network. The text of the event was published by The New York Times. Questions collected by employees over the course of a few days were addressed to the billionaire by marketing manager Leslie Burland. The entrepreneur replied to them for about an hour. He also promised to hold another meeting to address issues that could not be discussed. What were the main theses Elon Musk spoke about?

The entrepreneur expects his Twitter audience to reach at least one billion users in the next 5-10 years. He wants to “let people say what they want” and see fun content.

The businessman also stated that he is particularly interested in income from paid subscriptions and other “payments” on the platform. Musk emphasized that he respects people who “make a living on Twitter” and that one of his symbols is the Chinese WeChat, which allows users not only to communicate, but also to buy.

Some employees working remotely asked the entrepreneur whether the previous form of work would continue. Musk said that Twitter is different from Tesla and that it is “impossible to work remotely” so that employees can work remotely.

Commenting on the Reuters broadcast, announcing his intention to cut 10% of Tesla employees, citing Musk’s letter, the businessman said that Twitter’s spending now “exceeds revenue – it’s not a good situation.”

Musk also reminded that after the acquisition, Twitter will be a private company, not a public company. In his opinion, this will allow to do much more without taking into account the opinions of shareholders.

Remember, in early April, Elon Musk announced that he was ready to buy Twitter shares for $ 43 billion. “I believe Twitter can become a platform where everyone can express their opinion freely within the law. “Freedom of expression is the fundamental social principle of democracy,” said Elon Musk.
