Exclusive: The latest drama from the German public broadcaster is the remake of the 2019 Australian thriller miniseries. Safe harbor After an agreement with the distributor NBCUniversal Formats.
By name Set me free – Nach dem Sturm (Release me – after the storm), the drama revolves around a voyage across the Mediterranean Sea, a crowded ship of refugees and a life-changing catastrophe.
All episodes will be available on the ZDFmediathek streaming service on July 30th and will be broadcast on ZDF on August 29th.
The original show was produced for Australian cultural broadcaster SBS and came from Universal International Studios Sydney producer Matchbox Pictures.
Here is a brief description of the ZDF remake: “Jan (Friedrich Mukke) and Karo (Johanna Vokalek) travel the Mediterranean with Jan’s sister (Natalia Belicki), their friend Daniel (Mark Benjamin) and Helen (Inna Weiss). When they come across a shipwreck with refugees in danger. The yacht is his only chance of survival. Should vacationers help the desperate and risk being arrested on the ground? Or should they abandon fate? They decide to tow the refugee boat. But the next morning she disappeared without a trace. The trailer is broken.
“Years later, Jani meets Ismail (Mohammed Achur), apparently by accident, the father of a Syrian refugee family who was on a boat at the time and who he suspects has cut down a trailer. Eva Holtman and Eva Kaesgen are the producers, while Inna Phillips is the junior producer, while Astrid Stroher and Marco Vieri write the screenplays, while the film is directed by Christian Hakia.
