Archaeologists discovered the ruins of an old castle on the Scottish Ailey Island, which has been considered missing for centuries. Finding sheds light on the history of the dynasty that ruled these lands seven centuries ago.

According to the researchers, this was the residence of the strong lords of the islands from the McDonald dynasty, which previously ruled this land. It is known that the castle is located on the two small islands of the Loch-Finlaggan lakes connected to the bridge.
One of the islands had a stone patrol tower on the other side – a large hall, a chapel, a cemetery, housing and house buildings. Later, a scaffold was equipped for the boat in the castle.
The lords of the islands are reported to have been defeated in the 15th century and their goods were attached to Scotland. Through this finding, scientists will be able to work not only the architecture of the ancient dynasty, but also in a new way of life. Now archaeologists continue to dig in the lake in the hope of finding new works.
In the meantime, we have previously written that the Altai archaeologists have discovered the traces of one of the largest nomadic empires of the Early Middle Ages. Learn more in our material.
