What do children really want to do this summer (and what studies say)

Sleeping late, playing with friends, living adventures … The ideal holidays of children do not necessarily resemble those that parents imagine. Here’s what the latest studies on their summer desires reveal and how to satisfy them better.

The ideal holiday of children: freedom, games and shared moments

Every summer, the family plan remains, cultural activities and supervised adventures … but children dream above all of simplicity. According to a Booking.com study with 1,000 children aged 6 to 12, their wishes are clear: Sleep longer, have free time, play out and enjoy their loved ones. Far from sophisticated travel, they are the pleasures of daily life that make them happy.

85 % of children “play” at the top of their priority list, faced with tourist visits or holidays abroad. And 61 % want to spend more time with their parents or friends. It is therefore less the destination that counts for the possibility of experiencing moments of quality together, without constraints.

Holidays at the rhythm of children

The concept of rest is central. After a dense school year, they aspire to slow down. The fat mornings are part of their simplest dreams, but also the most essential for their well -being.

This is combined with the conclusions of a university study conducted in Finland (University of Tampere): The optimal holiday time is between 8 and 11 days. After this limit, the benefit on morale stagnates or even decreases. A short but well -built break is sufficient to recharge the batteries, provided that it respects everyone’s rhythm.

Adventure, but not the one in which we believe

According to a British survey conducted by Crayola and Jet2holidays, the ideal holidays of children include activities such as the construction of a cabin, the leap in waves, the battle of water or the observation of animals. What they are looking for are spontaneous and often outdoor adventures. On the contrary, the screens, although present in their daily life, are not at the center of their summer desires.

Leaves room for creative boredom

To satisfy these expectations, parents don’t need to fulfill every day. Offer free time, encourage imagination and allow the moments of boredom are all keys for a truly rejuvenating and unforgettable holiday.
