Before filming began, Jolie immersed herself in the world of an opera singer: she took Italian lessons, studied archival materials, and also practiced vocals. In an interview with USA Today, the actor admitted that he almost fainted due to the workload.
“When I first started singing, I almost lost consciousness. I didn’t realize that my body wasn’t strong enough. It’s like an athlete; “It is one of the most physical and challenging tasks you can do,” he explained.
The film “Maria” will tell about the fate of Maria Callas, who lost her voice towards the end of her career and almost never left her Paris apartment in the last years of her life. The film was directed by Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín, who had previously directed biographical films about Princess Diana and Jacqueline Kennedy. Steven Knight (Spencer, Peaky Blinders) is responsible for the script. The film also stars Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Kodi Smit-McPhee and others.
