Golden Globes updates eligibility rules for 2023

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association today announced its call for an unprecedented 2023 Golden Globe. The updated rules now allow for a hybrid approach from June 15, 2022 to June 15, 2022 to show permitted movies in person, on DVD or online.

“With the current loosening of restrictions by federal, state and local health officials, HFPA is returning to its usual compliance requirements, but remains sensitive to the potential increase in COVID-19 cases,” said the president of the ‘HFPA Helen Hoen in a statement. “We will be flexible in accessing authority through a combination of personal testimony or sending online screenings or DVDs to our jurors.

The date for the 2023 Golden Globes has not been set. This year’s 79th annual event in January was a discreet, non-televised affair amid the 2021 HFPA scandals.

Here is a brief description of today’s announcement:

  • HFPA offers film distributors a hybrid screening approach:
  1. Contact the HFPA office to schedule a screening date for all films on the official HFPA calendar. For English films, the official screening date must be no later than seven days after the English film premiere in Los Angeles. If the country of origin is not the United States, non-English-language films do not have to meet this standard one week after release, but must be submitted by the deadline for all 2022 film screenings.
  2. Distributors must provide all HFPA jurors the opportunity to have an in-person screening in both Los Angeles and New York (this can also be part of Prime, Jacket, or all distributors media testimonials) or retailers can provide a projection DVD or projection link. to be able to see it at home. This applies to films in English and other languages.
  3. Final release dates for all 2022 films (including all non-English language film screenings) will be announced separately. Films released before June 15, 2022 can be considered by sending the jury the screening links or a copy of the DVD up to the final submission date, if available.
  • For 2022, submission to the GoldenGlobe submission website will remain optional for award review. The HFPA will add the eligible content to your eligibility list if the studios / networks / broadcasters do not. The qualifying period runs from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022 for English-language films and from October 1, 2021 to December 31, 2022 for non-English-language films. The start date for these new requirements is June 15, 2022.
