John Tinniswood was 112 years old. He died in a nursing home in Southport, England. The man left behind a daughter, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Tinniswood lived a full life: he was a World War II veteran and outlived many important historical figures.
The Mirror says John Alfred Tinniswood died on 25 November. He was born in Liverpool on 26 August 1912 (and was a Liverpool FC fan). He married in 1942, worked as an accountant until his retirement in 1972, and his wife died in 1986. On 25 September 2020, John became Britain’s oldest man.
He was named Guinness World Record holder after the death of 112-year-old Chinese politician Shi Ping on June 29 this year. Tinniswood attributed his long life to moderation and sheer luck: “You either live long or you live short, and there’s not much you can do about it.”
