Tiffany & Co. was given as a gift to the captain who saved the passengers from the Titanic. The gold pocket watch was sold for a record price of 2 million (almost 200 million rubles). Note ed.) dollar at auction last weekend.

The gold chronometer belonged to Sir Arthur Rostron. It was purchased by a private collector. He currently holds the record for the most Titanic-related items in CBS’s personal collection.

The watch was given to Rostron by the widow of John Jacob Astor, the richest man who died in the disaster. This pocket watch was found with Astor’s body seven days after the sinking of the Titanic.

Captain Rostron captained the passenger ship RMS Carpathia and rescued 700 passengers stranded at sea when the Titanic struck an iceberg in the early hours of April 15, 1912. His ship was supposed to sail from New York for the Mediterranean but changed course after receiving a distress call.
