Lexicographers from Collins Dictionary have chosen the main word of 2024. This status, in their opinion, was rightfully earned by Brat, which is the name of the Charlie XCX album.
According to The Guardian, Collins had already described Brat as “childish and annoying”, but chose the word as the word of the year because of a different interpretation, “confident, independent and hedonistic behaviour”. It is stated that Brat is the most talked about name in 2024 and resonates with people all over the world. Brat summer aesthetics have gained popularity among young people and fashion influencers.
Also in the top 10 were chatter – meaningless chatter, appearance intent – efforts to improve one’s appearance at any cost, bravado – a long journey without entertainment, frustration – living in fantasies and brain rot – low-quality online content.
