Andrew Garfield became so popular for his role as Spider-Man that he couldn’t handle it. The actor went to extremes to save himself from unnecessary fame.
Garfield admitted that he felt like an outsider and was looking for a way to regain a quiet life without the paparazzi and his army of fans.
“I grew a really ugly beard and wore a lot of different clothes. So I just wanted to follow the paparazzi and ask why they were following me,” Garfield said on a recent episode of The A24 podcast.
The actor explained that he was very afraid of what happened and that he was afraid of losing himself. Garfield first played the role in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and reprized it in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man: No Way Home starred Tom Holland, but featured Garfield and another former Spidey, Tobey Maguire, in memorable roles.
