Maria Sharapova will be included in the International Tennis Hall of Fame, it was reported on the official website of the organization.
“I am incredibly grateful for this honour. Thank you to the Hall of Fame and everyone who voted. This recognition reminded me of the deep gratitude I have for my fans. The sports star wrote on social networks: Each of you helped me strive for the stars and achieve success together.
Sharapova will become Russia’s third representative in the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Previously, Marat Safin (in 2016) and Yevgeny Kafelnikov (in 2019) were included in it.
Let us remind you that on February 26, 2020, Maria Sharapova announced her retirement: “How do you say goodbye to the only life you’ve ever known? How do you leave the courts where you have trained since your childhood, the game you love so much that brings you secret tears and indescribable happiness? Sports, where have you found your family and fans who have supported you for over 28 years? This is new to me, so forgive me. Tennis, goodbye.”
