Anora, directed by American director Sean Baker and starring Yura Borisov and Mark Eidelstein, is the favorite of the potential Best Picture Oscar nominees. The star of the movie Centaur gave an interview to Snob in which he talked in more detail about the filming of the film.

Borisov said that the director of the film called him with an offer. “It all started with the screening of “Coupe Number 6” at the Cannes Film Festival (in which the main role is played by Yura Borisov, miner Lech – Note ed.). About a year after that, Sean Baker called me and said he was working on the script for his next movie and had written a role for me. Sean asked if I wanted to act with him, I didn’t know him at the time, and said I should watch his movies and think about it. “I looked, I saw the soul in them and I agreed to play with it,” said the artist.

It turned out that Borisov gave Mark advice to Baker: “I told Sean about Mark – there is a very young actor in Russia and it seems to me that he can play this role wonderfully.” The artist noted that they became very good friends during the shooting. “I love Mark very much, both as an artist and as a person. “When we met him, we literally became family in just half a day,” added the artist.
Borisov said he didn’t see much difference between filming in Russia and the United States. “They are not different at all: when the process is real, when it is open, it does not matter what nationality people are. People unite on one idea and work on it together,” shared the Russian cinema star.
He also commented on a photo taken with Angelina Jolie, which went viral on the internet after the Toronto festival: “I presented my film at the Toronto festival, and Angelina presented hers. We were doing different pressing movements and our paths crossed for a moment. “He came and said he watched Anora and really liked the movie.”

As Yura Borisov himself said, “Anora” is “a film about people, quite sincere and requiring sensitivity from the film crew. “It would have been the same if it had been shot in Russia.”
The plot of Anora follows the story of a heroine named Any-Anora (Mikey Madson) who marries the son of a Russian oligarch (Marc Eidelstein), thereby angering her family. Marriage gives him a ticket to a luxurious life, so he is not ready to back out. Then his relatives send him a sextet – the quiet gopnik Igor (Yura Borisov), the Armenian Toros (Karen Karagulyan) and the pessimist Garnik (Vache Tovmasyan).
