Two six-month-old kangaroos were stolen from a private zoo in the Kaluga region. This situation was reported by the owner of the park. The incident was confirmed by the press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The emergency occurred at the Sparrows bird park on the night of September 30. “They came at night, broke in, cut the fences, broke into the barn and stole two baby kangaroos,” Alexander Belyavsky, the owner of the private zoo, told RTVI.
According to Kaluganews, kangaroo babies just come out of their mother’s pouch and start feeding on their own, and if necessary care is not given, they can die. The police have already opened a criminal case regarding the theft, and law enforcement is currently searching for and catching the thieves.
A similar incident occurred in the Yaroslavl Zoo the other day. There the attackers stole the little kangaroo Krosh. The Ministry of Internal Affairs opened a criminal case for theft by illegal entry. Since the cameras in the zoo were turned off, the criminal was not caught on camera. A ladder was found outside.
Edgard Zapashny, general director of the Great Moscow Circus, suggested in an interview with RTVI that the crimes may be related and that the animals were stolen to be sold on the black market. It is known that thieves may face imprisonment of up to 5 years.
