Two seasons later, the show still hasn’t figured out how to properly portray its main characters.
Since the release of its first season in 2022, ‘House of the Dragon’ has repeatedly become the subject of intense scrutiny from industry professionals – in a bad way. The show was criticized for almost every step it took, especially those responsible for bringing the Targaryens’ fire-breathing pets, dragons, to life on screen.
And while special effects artists can be forgiven for a lot in this regard, citing the fact that the author of “Game of Thrones” and “Fire and Blood” George Martin himself is not sure how exactly dragons live and exist in Westeros , their colleagues in the workshop disagree – and they believe that those who worked on the series should have known at least one detail in advance.
For example, a video recently appeared on the Corridor Crew YouTube channel, where special effects professionals came together again and found a reason to criticize ‘House of the Dragon’. The culprit was the scene from the seventh episode, where at that moment the Vermitor, tamed by no one, spits out the flames of unfortunate candidates for the role of the owner.
According to Niko Puringer, who specializes in pyrotechnics, the fire in the scene looks too unrealistic: it is too dark and to a certain extent even too ‘clean’.
Niko added that this isn’t the first time he’s seen something like this and that he’s tired of seeing Hollywood shows repeating the same mistake over and over again. According to him, “House of the Dragon” costs almost nothing to correct this error – it only needs to add brightness to the dragon fire, which can illuminate the entire scene, making it look much more natural.
