Mel Gibson is preparing to shoot the sequel to The Passion of the Christ, 20 years after the first film was released, and is now looking for a suitable location to shoot it.
The director is exploring Europe, previously visiting Malta, Italian Puglia and the ancient sites of Ginos, Gravina Laterza and Altamura. “All we can confirm is that they are looking for locations recently,” Gibson’s rep Alan Nierob told Variety, “There’s not much else to discuss at this stage.” As for casting, Nierob added that any talks were premature.
“The Passion of the Christ” is Gibson’s original take on Jesus Christ’s final days on earth. The film has grossed more than 56 billion rubles worldwide, making it the highest-grossing independent film of all time.
