Winona Ryder admits to being a victim of sexual assault

The 52-year-old Hollywood star said she felt blacklisted by Miramax because of her meetings with company co-founder Harvey Weinstein at the beginning of her career in the late 1990s and early 2000s. She was allegedly angered by her interactions with the young actress.

Weinstein is currently in prison for sexual assault. Winona Ryder revealed in an interview with Esquire that he reached out to her, she shook his hand, they sat on the couch, they talked and the artist left. “Then the agent yelled at me. ‘What did you do?’ I said, ‘What?’ Apparently I offended him by reaching out?.. Probably,” the celebrity shared.

Winona Ryder had previously worked on the company’s 1993 film House of the Spirits. She recalled Harvey Weinstein banging on her trailer door during filming. The filmmaker allegedly insisted she take a role in a film adaptation of his play “Little Voice.” “I said, ‘Oh my God, I just saw this in London.’ I said, ‘You’ve got to cast that girl, Jane Horrocks. She’s really gorgeous.’ And she acted really weird and left. She didn’t like me,” Ryder said.

She said she was not specifically subjected to sexual harassment by Weinstein, but she was subjected to it as an actress in her 20s and 30s. “I’ve had a few difficult situations with a few people who were clearly sexually abusive,” the star admitted.

“This was not an assault. But it was incredibly inappropriate. It was brutal.” “I truly understand what the victims of Weinstein and others are going through,” Winona added.
