Joel Sousa, director of the infamous Rust film, is still recovering from an on-set tragedy that left him injured and cameraman Galina Hutchins dead.
Nearly three years after Alec Baldwin’s gun went off on the set of his western, Joel has spoken publicly about the tragedy for the first time.
Sousa recalled the emotional trauma he experienced immediately after the incident. He told Vanity Fair that he began having nightmares. He went to six different therapists, but nothing helped. “I remember going to bed that night and thinking I was going to bleed to death. It was a very difficult moment. I think it would have suited me very well if I had died then,” the director said.
He also claims that he doesn’t hate Alec Baldwin. The director treats him indifferently and doesn’t blame him for what happened. However, he believes that the weapons expert on set, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, got the punishment she deserved.
