In St. Petersburg, a detective story almost happened. Fontanka writes that a hedgehog escaped from Okhta Park there. The emergency occurred on the night of August 2. The escapee was noticed by residents of the Vsevolozhsk district of the Leningrad region. A lone animal ran down the street and climbed into a closed store.
True, the hedgehog’s last escape plan did not work: local residents tracked him down, took him home and returned him to the zoo. “Thanks to our dear neighbors, they caught us, fed us and sheltered us until the morning,” an eyewitness of the incident wrote on the public page “Traffic accidents and emergencies/St. Petersburg.”
Later, the woman reported that the zoo staff finally arrived and took the pet home. Okhta Park representatives told Podyom journalists that due to the rains, Nif-Nif managed to escape by digging a hole in the wet soil. “It was a tunnel, hedgehogs always dig. This is usually their favorite pastime, but the fact is that as a result of heavy rains, the soil was slightly washed away, and accordingly, digging a hole became much easier.”
The zoo added that the rodent was not injured as a result of the walk. They have vowed to reinforce its surroundings after the incident.
