A motorhome that can take you all over Russia sounds like a dream trip, right? But for Pavel Matveev, that dream has come true with his new VK Video show “On the Road!” In just a few issues, he has completely redesigned his bus, from the paint to the updated engine, so he can take it on a trip to Karelia.
And we met him and his trailer at the St. Petersburg VK Fest – the same night he returned to the northern capital from a trip to the Kaliningrad region to travel further afield – for new impressions and stories he will soon share in the show. We talked with him about our adventures along the way, memorable places and our plans for the future.
How did you get here? How long did the journey take?
Things didn’t go as planned for us. We planned to go through Lithuania, Belarus and Russia, but unfortunately due to closed borders we had to take the car on a ferry – it took 40 hours to get there and we flew by plane.
How did you decide to travel by car? Why not a classic train or plane?
For me, a car is much more convenient than other modes of transport, so you don’t have to depend on anyone or anything for your movements. I’ve traveled all over the world by car – all of Iceland, the Caucasus Mountains, the Far East, Altai. Moreover, you can take a lot of equipment with you in the car, because the nature of our work is filming. With a car, you are your own boss.
You’ve been through so much, it seems hard to surprise you. Where else would you like to go?
Good question. In fact, even here in Russia there are many hard-to-reach places that few people know about – island archipelagos, for example.
