Martin Scorsese’s Raising the Dead is set to return to theaters, restored to new quality after 25 years.
The 1999 film, starring Nicolas Cage, will be remastered in 4K Ultra HD. Experts will use the original film negatives to create a new version. CBR writes that Martin Scorsese personally oversaw the restoration.
The updated edition will also feature new and old interviews with the film’s cast. Nicolas Cage has named Raising the Dead as one of his three favorite films (along with Pig and Leaving Las Vegas).
“I think it’s one of my best movies. But the way it was promoted was such that people went into the theater expecting an ambulance-based action adventure. This movie is not that. It’s a harrowing dive into the life of a burnt-out paramedic.” “The movie was misunderstood, but I think the rerelease gives it a new lease of life,” Cage told Deadline in January.
In the story, he plays Frank Pierce, a paramedic on the verge of madness. He tries to save the father of a girl named Patricia Arquette. Together they will have to face the ghosts of the past.
