The original watercolor illustration of the cover of the first edition of the book “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” was sold at auction for 163.8 million rubles. It is stated that this is the most expensive work related to novels about a wizard ever to go under the hammer.

According to BBC news, the auction lasted 10 minutes. And the final bid exceeded the expected cost by almost four times. It was assumed that the cover would be sold for 35-50 million rubles.
The artist behind the illustration, Thomas Taylor, was just 23 years old when he painted the iconic image of Harry Potter standing in front of the Hogwarts Express in 1997. The drawing can be seen here.
