The eighth show follows eight people trapped an eight-story building as part of a reality show with mysterious rules. As time goes by, their earnings increase. If several million survive.
However, the rules of the game are not given to them in advance. Added to this, candidates find that they don’t experience the same treatment at all: some are advantaged while others are pushed to their limits. The goal is to recreate inequalities that recall the unjust principles of capitalism.
Between entertainment and social satire
Since it was published online on Friday 17 May, The eighth show continued to gain popularity. Currently number 2 of the most watched series on Netflix, it arouses the enthusiasm of Netflix subscribers on social networks. Many appreciate a series with captivating characters, a surprising ending and a reflection on social dynamics:
I watched “The 8 Show” on Netflix this weekend. I recommend it to all those who are interested in issues of society, the state, hierarchy, inequalities. He explains all his questions in a very didactic way around a Squid Game style game.

BIG FAVORITE #The8Show is a well-crafted satyr with engaging characters and well-crafted moments of tension. On the other hand, Korea will have to calm down a bit on the series side, I’m starting to have difficulty bearing the sleepless nights pic.twitter.com/NNuexpaKNK

I have rarely been as enthralled by a K mini series as The 8 show.
It excellently addresses the theme of human decadence through social networks such as TikTok or reality TV, but also what current society has become.I highly recommend it +++ pic.twitter.com/R4eNPcPqc7

The success of The eighth show confirms the appeal of Korean series on Netflix. This is not an isolated phenomenon: Korean productions, whether drama, romance, science fiction or fantasy, systematically find their audience. For now, Netflix has not announced a second season of The 8 Show. We know it, though season 2 of Squid game will air in December.
