At the beginning of May, in Argentina, hatred towards the LGBTQIA+ community resulted in three feminicides.
Second Publication, which dedicated an article to this tragedy, a man in his sixties threw a Molotov cocktail into the apartment where two couples of women lived on the night between 5 and 6 May. Severely burned, three of them, aged between 52 and 43, died from their injuries. The fourth woman, 49 years old, also seriously burned, was able to speak to investigators.
The alleged perpetrator of the triple femicide has been arrested
According to the first elements of the investigation, the man was the neighbor of the four women. They all resided in the Barracas neighborhood, in a “conventillo”, a collective boarding house where several families live.
This is demonstrated by the testimony of the survivor, as well as that of other neighbors the man allegedly specifically targeted the four women because they were lesbiansto whom he would utter insults such as “monsters”, “big dirty” OR “cakes” (“dams”) for many months. The 60-year-old was then arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
While for the moment neither the police nor the courts have confirmed the motive for the attack, from the evening of Monday 6 May several hundred people gathered in the Barracas neighborhood to denounce a “hate crime” towards the LGBTQIA+ community.

This triple femicide comes at a time when the new Argentine president Javier Milei intensifies his anti-feminist speeches and measures, specifically targeting gender minorities. Since his election last November, he has abolished the Ministry of Women, announced his intention to close the National Institute against Discrimination and banned inclusive language in the national administration and the military.
For its part, the Ministry of Women of the province of Buenos Aires did not hesitate to define this attack as “crime of lesbophobia” Who “It is not an isolated case, but it is part of the discourse repeated irresponsibly by the government”.
