35 years later: Meryl Streep wins the Palme d’Or

The 77th Cannes Film Festival, attended by many world stars including Meryl Streep, started in France on May 14. The actress chose an elegant look for the red carpet: a floor-length white dress, completing her look with high heels and chandelier earrings.

74-year-old Meryl Streep received the Palme d’Or for her special contributions to the development of cinema. The last time a celebrity attended the festival was 35 years ago. Later, she was awarded the Best Actress award for the movie “A Scream in the Dark”.

The actor thanked the event organizers and colleagues for the statuette. “I am very honored to receive this prestigious award. Winning an award at Cannes has always been the highest achievement in the art of filmmaking for the international community of artists. Standing in the shadow of those who have been honored before is equal parts humbling and moving,” Meryl Streep was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Let’s remember that the Hollywood star has won many major awards throughout his career. He has three Oscars, nine Golden Globes and a star on the Walk of Fame.
