The return of the ballerina is inevitable: here’s how not to stink your feet or hurt your back

The ballerina, the star shoe of our middle and high school years, returns to appear in fashion shows. How to wear them without smelling feet, suffering from uneven terrain or suffering back pain due to the ultra-flat sole? Here are some tips!

At the turn of the millennium, many women swore by ballerinas, once played by Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot. From students to active girls, they have fallen in love with this relaxed and sophisticated basic at the same time: easy to put on and take off, it doesn’t weigh down either the look or the walk with its finesse and lightness!

But it is also because of its ultra-flat sole that this shoe could soon become uncomfortable and have a ridiculous durability.

Except that the more successful a trend is, the faster the overdose occurs. This is why from the 2010s onwards the ballerina suddenly appeared too fashionable and outdated, made obsolete by white sneakers or their more preppy equivalents such as moccasins and slippers.

It is as if, from one day to the next, he had been erased from the French collective memory.

After a false start in 2016, the ballerina is indispensable for the 2020s

But fashion is only an eternal beginning. All the 2000s trends are making a comeback, including the ballerina slipper, much to Kalindi’s dismay…

Queen of ugly chic, the designer Miuccia Prada had put ballerinas on the feet of her spring-summer 2016 collection with wide shoulder straps, belts and ankle scarves. An unexpected punk look, immediately adopted by fashionistas Chiara Ferragni, Alexa Chung and Adwoa Aboah.

The following season there was a wave of this type of shoe, which invaded the catwalks of Valentino, Acne Studios and even Undercover. Slowly but surely, the dancer gradually returned to the scent of sanctity.

But the final blow was given by Hedi Slimane, the new artistic director of the Celine house and king of bestsellers, who showed in Monaco her spring-summer 2021 collection full of ballet flats. Since then, the 2022, 2023 and 2024 fashion weeks continue to praise the controversial dancer.

After the pandemic, since we spend more time at home, comfort has become trendy: we more easily dare to take to the streets with outfits that look like pajamas. So obviously these “city slippers” that are ballet flats become inviting…

To adopt them in the 2024 style, it is better to combine them with wide and wide trousers, slim trousers or even shorts with semi-covering knee-highs.

You can play the bourgeois wardrobe card to the max, or conversely divert it with more utilitarian looks like overalls-style tracksuits, work overshirts or even good old gray jogging bottoms.

How do your ballerinas’ feet not stink?

But how to avoid the well-known pitfalls of ballet flats, such as thin soles or bad odors?

Well, know this genuine leather models cause fewer bad odors compared to those imitated. Especially if you don’t wear them for several days in a row, to let the air out of your skin! Plus, it’s no secret at all that invisible socks also help prevent skunk odors.

How not to hurt your back wearing ballet flats?

If many ballet flats have noble leather soles, you can also opt for those in rubber or tunit, much more capable of absorbing shocks and resisting bad weather. It is also easier to wash away dog excrement and spittle that stain city pavements…

Furthermore, choosing a model with a slightly raised heel also prevents back pain. Vinted is full of Repetto models, in super soft calfskin and rubber soles to solve the impossible equation without exploding your PEL!

The best solution is also to remember that ballet flats are the origin of ballet shoes, designed more for sliding on the stage floor than for pounding the pavement with a sure step… Besides, it’s better reserve them for times when you don’t walk too muchand count on good old sneakers for marathon days!
