The silence of the royal family no longer exists. After undergoing abdominal surgery last January, Kate Middleton spoke about the reasons for her retreat from public life. There were a lot of speculations and rumors circulating about the princess’s health, and the reason was just explained by the same person: she suffers from cancer.

French translation:
“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and understanding while I was recovering from surgery.
These last few months have been incredibly difficult for our entire family, but I have had an amazing medical team who took great care of me and for that I am very grateful.
In January I had major abdominal surgery in London and at the time my condition was thought to be non-cancerous.
The operation was a success. However, tests carried out after the operation found that cancer was present. My medical team then advised me to undergo preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of this treatment.
This was obviously a huge shock and William and I did everything we could to process and handle this privately, for the sake of our young family.
As you can imagine, it took a while. It took me a while to recover from a major operation and start treatment. But most importantly, it took time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that was appropriate for them, and to reassure them that everything would be okay.
As I told them; I am doing well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and soul.
Having William by my side is also a great source of comfort and reassurance. Just like the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means a lot to both of us.
We hope you understand that as a family we now need time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to returning when I can, but for now I need to focus on fully recovering.
I also think of all the people whose lives have been affected by cancer. Anyone facing this disease in any form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone. »
