According to a survey published by Street print On Monday 4 March, the highly influential president of the UNSA police union, Olivier Varlet, reportedly did everything to protect his friend Yves Milla, also a police officer, convicted of acts of violence against his wife and children.
Beatings, death threats and sexual violence
Questioned by Streetpress, Isabelle, Yves Milla’s ex-wife, talks about years of trouble. “He threatened me that he would drive me to suicide if he lost custody of the children, that it would be okay for him to kill me or force me to do so. »
It was following a conversation between her son and his college social worker that Isabelle found the strength to file a complaint after years of silence. During this interview, 12-year-old Damien says his father puts his service weapon on the table while he does homework. Added to this psychological pressure is physical violence: “He slaps me, punches me in the stomach and when he gets really angry he strangles us and makes us climb high up the wall. » The social worker decides to call Isabelle immediately and takes her and her two children to the police. Not at the police station, where her husband is well established and untouchable, according to Isabelle.
In front of the investigators, Isabelle revealed that in addition to the psychological and physical violence, the subject of her complaint, she had suffered repeated sexual violence. She in particular was raped in 2009 and 2016, which involved other police officers in the marital home. “On at least three occasions, according to Isabelle, her husband had a colleague of his come to their house so he could have sexual intercourse with her, in front of him”retraces Street print.
Small agreements between friends
However, despite the charges against him, the policeman enjoys fierce protection. The number one of the UNSA union, Olivier Varlet interviewed by investigators, places himself at the forefront in the fight against intra-family violence and reiterates his unfailing support for his friend: “The story of my friend Yves Milla doesn’t correspond to what [je peux] see during disciplinary councils involving violent colleagues. If I have any, we will throw them away. » He even goes so far as to add, not without indecency: “I would have dreamed of having a father like Yves. »
Yves Milla’s conviction for domestic violence in 2023 will result in a discreet transfer, reports StreetPress :
On 15 October 2023 he took up a new role obtained as part of a “transfer in the interests of the service”. A measure that is normally applied when the behavior of a public employee, without being illegitimate, is prejudicial to the functioning of the service, for example an argument with a colleague. In the case of Yves Milla it would rather be a magic trickorganized according to various sources by his friend Olivier Varlet, to avoid the interdepartmental mixed administrative commission (Chiefs) of Moselle, a disciplinary council within which he even risked dismissal.
To protect him from the storm, Yves Milla was not transferred anywhere: he was appointed to the Directorate of Human Resources, Finance and Support (DRHFS), a department placed under the direct authority of the Director of Human Resources of the police, as soon as under the General Directorate of National Police (DGPN). “The DRHFS is the head of human resources for the police. Everything goes through there and the director is a privileged interlocutor for the unions. therefore if you want to avoid a disciplinary council or even a sanction for one of your apostles, send him to the DRHFS and directly negotiate the suppression of the dossier » explains a senior union official.
“Result: Milla leaves for Paris, earning more money at the end of the month and freeing herself from the judgment of her peers in the Grand Est” comments to Street print a public servant and former member of UNSA Grand Est.
Olivier Varlet assures that his friend did not benefit from any preferential treatment.
