Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes will direct and produce four films about John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, each of which will explore the story of the band from the point of view of one of its members. The biopics, financed and distributed globally by Sony, promise to intertwine to tell the story of the legendary group, with a theatrical release scheduled for 2027.

“An extraordinarily epic and thrilling cinematic experience”

Each feature film will explore the group’s history from the perspective of one of its iconic members. As reported IndieWireThis project marks the first time that Apple Corps Ltd., the label created by the Beatles and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison, grant full rights to the story and music of a scripted film.


According to Sony Pictures Entertainment, these biopics will form a sort of ensemble narrative: them “they will cross paths” to tell a unified story of the legendary group. Each of the films will have a “full theatrical release window” in 2027. The cadence of their release, described as “innovative and revolutionary” from the study, will be revealed later.

Pippa Harris, co-producer of the films and used to working with Sam Mendes with whom she founded a production company, explained:

“We want it to be an extraordinarily epic and emotional cinematic experience : four films, seen from four different points of view, to tell a single story about the most famous group of all time. »

Sam Mendes, who is also a producer on the project, said yes “Honored to tell the story of the greatest rock band of all time”. For now the release date of the four films has been announced for 2027.
