Robert Kirkman will bring together TRANSFORMERS and GI JOE in an epic animated series

A massive animated series crossover is on the way, bringing together some of pop culture’s most legendary franchises.

Robert KirkmannSkybound Entertainment and Hasbro Entertainment are teaming up to expand the Energon universe, this time as an adult animated series based on the hit comics of the same name.

According to Deadline, the Energon Universe will be an “epic crossover” that merges the worlds of GI Joe, Transformers and Void Rivals. The project is under development with Joe Hendersonbest known for his work on Luciferas showrunner.

The show is described as “broad” and in the same spirit as Kirkman’s dark and gritty film Invinciblewhich was a huge hit for Prime Video. The series is expected to attract a lot of attention as it will be introduced to potential buyers soon.

It is reported: “Kirkman, a Transformers and GI Joe fan since childhood, won the comic book publishing rights to the Hasbro imprints in 2021. He went on to create a cohesive shared universe where Transformers and GI Joe co-exist alongside the original Void Rivals IP, which Kirkman co-created with Lorenzo De Felici.”

The Energon Universe comic line has become a huge success since its debut in 2023. “Two years later, Energon Universe has become one of Hasbro’s best-selling comic lines ever, with over 7 million units sold worldwide. It launched in June 2023 with Void Rivals, which featured the surprise appearance of Transformers character Jetfire on the final page.

“This was followed by the October 2023 release of Transformers and four miniseries focusing on GI Joe characters, leading to the launch of the GI Joe series in November 2024, with Transformers #1, GI Joe #1 and Void Rivals #1 setting sales records, and Transformers winning two Edgar Awards in 2024.”

Now it’s making the leap from page to screen. Fan of both Transformers AND GI Joe I’ve been hoping to see a badass new crossover like this for a long time, and with Kirkman and Henderson leading the charge, this could be something truly amazing.

The Energon Universe animated series doesn’t have a network or streaming home yet, but the combination of these iconic brands and Invincible-level storytelling has the potential to be a huge success.

Hopefully the project will get a strong creative team that will deliver a great show with fantastic animations.
