Is repair a bad word in fashion? For some time now, a large part of the general public has preferred to throw away their worn clothes and shoes rather than attempt to repair them. This is demonstrated by the progressive disappearance of the number of shoemakers: from 50,000 in the 1950s, there are only 3,000 today. But who would dare ask them to repair sneakers, when we wear them more and more? Now that the country offers financial assistance for repairs, more and more brands are positioning themselves in this niche to attract customers in a different way, while affirming their eco-responsibility values. A pioneer in the industry, even before the appearance of this repair bonus story, VEJA completely opens a new space dedicated to this.
VEJA continues to repair shoes, and now clothes too!

It was in June 2020 that the French sneaker brand launched its project” Clean, repair, collect » extend the life of sneakers of all brands thanks to repairs, thanks to a first shoemaking space in Bordeaux. This first location was joined in July 2021 by the Galeries Lafayette Haussmann in Paris, then boutiques in Berlin and Madrid, and even a mobile shoe repair shop in a container, in collaboration with the reintegration company Log’ins. And nowa new space extends this initiative by expanding it to clothing, with VEJA’s first General Store in Paris.
Opened on February 8, 2024, this 100 m2 in the city of light brings together two shoemakers who will repair sneakers and shoes every day (yes, from Monday to Sunday), as well as a tailor to extend the life of clothes, of all brands (from Monday to Friday). In addition to repairs, the store will offer other shoe-related items, such as books, socks, care products and even laces. In short, a real shoe spa, where you can also try to resurrect your clothes.
An opportunity to remember that beyond VEJA, even though local shoe repairs and alterations are becoming increasingly rare, they can still work wonders, so maybe consider asking them before throwing away an item you think is hurting too much.
Discover the General Store, the VEJA space dedicated to the repair of shoes and clothing of all brands, at 11 rue de Marseille, 75010 Paris.
