Intimate hygiene: 3 actions to exclude from your routine according to 60 million consumers

The vaginal flora is particularly fragile and can become unbalanced very quickly when actions are practiced that are not suited to its needs. 60 million consumers listed 3.

Taking care of your vulva is not always very simple. Prejudices, bad practices, unwise or non-personalised advice… There can be many reasons that push us to carry out actions that are harmful to intimate health. In a special issue of Alimentazione e Salute dedicated more specifically to women’s health, the review 60 million consumers established, in the company of gynecologists, what are the 3 bad habits that can be at the origin of many intimate problems.

Douching

“The vagina is like a pyrolysis oven, it is self-cleaning”explains gynecologist Dr. Odile Bagot 60 million consumers. However, too many people still try to clean the inside of their vagina. Either by projecting the shower jet or using a soap (intimate or otherwise) in this area. In both cases this practice is not recommended because it tends to unbalance the bacterial flora and cause mycosis and infections. In reality, the vagina cleans itself and knows how to eliminate (bad) bacteria without the need for any intervention on our part.

The towel

The wipe seems to be a good alternative for personal cleaning, but it is not. And for good reason, represents the ideal environment (warm and humid) for the development of bacteriaparticularly that of e-colinaturally present in feces.

Excessive hygiene

Washing in the morning and evening is good, but taking numerous intimate showers during the day is not necessary and above all not recommended by professionals. Once again, this excess hygiene could damage the intimate flora, which does not need to be in contact with soap and water more than twice a day.

Deodorants, wipes and intimate cleansers: what do we think?

60 million consumers he was also interested in three products commonly used for intimate cleansing: deodorants, detergents and wipes.

First, the review focuses on detergents that have so far not been subjected to concrete studies (apart from those from pharmaceutical laboratories) to establish whether they are – or are not – better for intimate cleansing than, for example, a pH-neutral soap. In reality many of these treatments are scented, which can be a problem according to Jen Gunter, a Canadian-American gynecologist and women’s health specialist. She explains:

«Many ‘feminine’ treatments are scented, even those for ‘sensitive skin’. However, perfumes are a known cause of irritation and allergies. »

If experts are not against the use of intimate wipes, they prefer to warn about itthey are absolutely not ecological and necessary. Only one troubleshooting while traveling » they may possibly justify their use but they are certainly not to be adopted on a daily basis.

As for intimate perfumes and deodorants… As you can imagine, they should obviously be avoided because they only increase the risk of various infections.

Remember that it is completely normal for a vulva to smell like a vulva and that adding perfume could cause strong imbalances. The mass has been said!
