The film became an event, earned $ 826 million, received eight Oscar nominations and four statues, and Leonardo DiCaprio made his contribution to the status of a cult photo. But all this was a bit different: Nolan initially offered the most important role of Brad Pitt.
It turned out that Pitt received an offer to one of the first. The script held in the strictest secret – the actors were only allowed to read it under supervision. The circumstances were simple: Pitt had to give an answer within 48 hours.
According to the Hollywood ReporterThere was no answer – and a few days later Nolan moved to the next candidate, who was Will Smith by the way. He refused and said that “the script didn’t understand.”
And only then did the project come to DiCaprio.
What did PITT prevent? There are no versions. In 2009, when the preparations for filming the “beginning” were underway, he just completed the “Inglorious Bastards” in Tarantino and was no longer busy. In 2010 he only appeared in the cartoon “Megamozg” (and then in Stemactteren). It doesn’t look like a closed schedule. Maybe I scored the scale, perhaps the complexity of the script. Even DiCaprio later admitted that he did not fully understand what happened there.
The irony is that this is not the first time that Pitt was next to Nolan, but did not get things. In the early 2000s he had already ‘remembered’ the script and was interested, but then Gai Pierce got the role. Since then, potential cooperation has been in the air: Pitt receives stable offers, and Nolan regularly takes hits without.
