While the public claims that the teenagers in Hokins will kill ‘very strange things’ in the last season, the series that has already done all this in the archive of the 90s long for Netflix, and often even spectacular.
It is called “City of SuperNatural. Indiana” (original name – ScaryIndiana), And if you haven’t heard about him yet, you are not alone: hardly anyone looked at him in Russia. But in the West this series is still remembered as an underrated classics – and possibly a direct predecessor of “very strange things”.
The plot is built around a schoolboy named Marshall, who and his family are moving to the quiet American town of Indiana. The person who is now associated with portals, monsters and children with telepathy. Only in the “city of SuperNatural” does everything start much quieter – and then it gets really strange.

The makers of the series (including director Joe Dante) were inspired by the Twilight zone, but they did not respond to apocalyptic madness, but on everyday absurdity. For 19 episodes, heroes are confronted with such phenomena as:
- A family from the 50s, who stores his bodies in gigantic Tupperware containers, not to grow old;
- school nurse, suspected similar to a manipulator with washed brain;
- An alternative dimension that can be failed if you forget to transfer the clock to the summer.
The series did not last in the air – NBC closed it after a season. Later the show was repeated on Fox Kids, and in 1998 the spin-off even came out. Over time, the Cultus series was: it was judged by those who grew up in the 90s, and new generations opened it thanks to fan recommendations.
The most indicative fact is the recognition of Alex Hirsch, the maker of Gravity Folz:
“I was obsessed with the” supernatural city. “” Gravity Falls “is literally my adult attempt to restart my favorite series, which was canceled in childhood,” he wrote in 2021.
Nowadays, the “city of SuperNatural” is 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, an assessment of 7.4 out of 10 in the Kinopoisk and the status of cult classics, who just had bad luck with timing.
