Pharrell Williams reinterprets Wild Wild West for his Louis Vuitton Fall-Winter 2024-2025 show

Since his first show at the helm of Louis Vuitton’s men’s collections in June 2023, Pharrell Williams has continued his hybridization of cultures. This is demonstrated by his new autumn-winter 2024-2025 fashion show, presented on January 16, 2024 at the Jardin d’Acclimatation in Paris, where he reinterprets the conquest of the Far West.

The window of transfer of designers into the artistic direction of the big houses can be difficult to follow, as names follow one another and are similar, without necessarily being memorable. This is only his third show at the helm of Louis Vuitton’s men’s collections, yet Pharrell Williams has already managed to establish himself as its influential DA. After his impressive show at the Pont Neuf in Paris in June 2023, then another in Hong Kong in November, he takes over the Jardin d’Acclimatation (behind the Louis Vuitton foundation, just to feel at home) to present his collection Louis Vuitton men’s autumn-winter 2024-2025 collection, 16 January 2024.

The invitation card (a harmonica for the majority, accompanied by a cowboy hat for the happy few in the front row) foreshadowed a western-inspired Louis Vuitton autumn-winter 2024-2025 men’s collection by Pharrell Williams. Better yet, a reinterpretation of Americana, that is, the popular culture of the United States of America from which the DA comes.

And it didn’t miss: a deluge of jeans, fringes, ties and turquoise details (a very important precious stone in Native American culture, quickly reappropriated and intensely demined by the Americans in their conquest of the Wild West). All this, without ever falling into too basic a disguise. Or Native American cultural appropriation?

In addition to the jeans with turquoise rivets and the Speedy bag in the same shade which should sell like hot cakes, the collaboration between the bootmaker Timberland and Louis Vuitton is worth mentioning. Enough to further blur the temporal markers of American workwear, from the conquest of the West in the early 19th century to today, and for dressing tomorrow. Wear with bootcut jeans, a cut that could make a comeback on the fashion scene if Pharrell Williams’ influence continues.
