It often does not happen to hear someone describing Frankenstein as fun, but leave it to Oscar Isaac AND Guillermo del Toro To transform Gothic horror into a joyful creative playground.
The next adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein It promises to be one of the most anticipated films of the year and, according to Isaac, making it a real fun.
“It was the most fucking fun I ever had in my life. Running in the rain, up and down the steps, this thing similar to Christ on a crucifix and Guillermo in the corner, screaming!
“It was difficult to understand that it was really happening. It is such a dark material, but it was approached with so much joy. As the 14 years old they had the keys to the kingdom – he had that type of energy.”
That mix of darkness and exuberance sounds as a bull classic, embracing the macabre while finding beauty and emotion inside. Isaac, who plays Victor Frankenstein, explained that this version of the story is not the typical story of “scientists” that we have seen before.
“[Guillermo] He was much more interested in the emotional basis of what the character means for him than to the things we have seen, that I believe he is “crazy scientist”.
“There are elements, but we get closer to an artist. And in reality this idea of generational abuses and traumas that are handed down and how it continues to pass it on its creation. And in the end the surrender of the accounts that happens for this.”
It looks like that of Del Toro Frankenstein It will be a profoundly emotional and visually stunning exploration of pain, creation and humanity, which is something that only he could do.
If the Isaac experience on the set is an indication, the film can balance that emotional weight with an unexpected sense of joy and creative freedom.
Frankenstein It releases in the cinemas selected on October 17th and streaming on Netflix begins on November 7th.
