Shaquille O’Neal proves you can go home again.
The TNT Inside the NBA The analyst left the Orlando Magic after the 1995/96 season. He was the team’s no. 1 prospect in 1992 and along with Penny Hardaway helped the team reach the 1995 NBA Finals.
But O’Neal’s departure to the Los Angeles Lakers sparked bitter feelings among the despised Magic. But now all seems to be forgotten and forgiven.
This is the third team to retire Shaq’s number. The Lakers retired his number 34 jersey in April 2013, and the Miami Heat retired his number 32 jersey in December 2016. O’Neal won three titles with the Lakers and one with the Heat.
O’Neal will be the first player in Magic history to have his jersey number retired. In Orlando, he wore number 32. The ceremony will take place on February 13.
O’Neal was the 1992-93 NBA Rookie of the Year and an All-Star in each of his four seasons with the Magic.
