Exclusive: Global Sports Streaming Outfit DAZN is aiming for around 50 attachments at its London office, deadline may reveal.
Staff at Hammersmith, based in West London, have been informed in the last few hours that Deadline understands and has started a 4-week work process, potentially closing around 50 positions.
That number represents around 5% of the UK workforce, the majority of which work in London, and 2% of the global workforce, which numbers more than 2,500.
Although London is where DAZN started, the decision is understandably driven by the team’s decision to decentralize to other growing regions such as Spain, Italy and Germany.
Conversely, around 50 people have been hired at the Spanish office ahead of next season’s La Liga football competition and have been looking for senior leaders in emerging markets in recent months. Even in the case of working in the UK, hiring a foreigner means there could be a net profit by the end of the year for the whole business.
DAZN was launched in 2016 as a solid startup and has made great strides, gaining sports rights in many territories and expanding to 200 countries around the world, including the United States, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Japan in recent years.
The company, led by CEO Shay Segev and chaired by former Disney CEO Kevin Meyer, now has the rights to key areas of European football, Spanish La Liga, multi-league basketball, esports and tennis, among others.
