‘The Masked Singer’ UK: Viewers cry as Dionne Warwick is exposed and sent home in first episode

Viewers were stunned on Saturday night when one of the masked singers on the UK version of the hit show was revealed to be music legend Dionne Warwick – and she was sent home after just one episode.

“Weer” appeared earlier in the show, heavily disguised, but when she started singing, many viewers at home and most of the show’s four judges immediately guessed that it was probably Warwick.

She was one of six costumed celebrities to take to the stage in the first episode of the new series, becoming one of three cast members in danger of being sent home in the final minutes of the show.

After the jury decided to save another contestant and she lost the vote between the final two, “Weer” was revealed as a veteran five-time Grammy winner and Burt Bacharach’s muse. With a smile on her face, she didn’t look shocked as she headed home, leading viewers on social media to speculate that she had made a one-off appearance a condition of her appearance on the British show.

“If Dionne Warwick is the first voted out of #MaskedSingerUK there should be a one week contract for those who want to join but not too long. Unless they just don’t want to pretend Weer isn’t gone for another week?’

A second said: “Obviously Dionne Warwick only had a one-episode deal.”

And a third added: “#TheMaskedSinger is definitely a fix! They knew it was Dionne Warwick and would have kept her because she was the legend she is. Something weird is going on.”

Warwick has previously appeared on The masked singer USA in 2020 as a mouse when it was discovered just as quickly. She said at the time:

“Unfortunately, in this case it is quite difficult to hide my voice and they recognized my voice, there is nothing I can do about it.”
