Moffat said:
“We have a problem: we think it’s demanding to be cynical, but that’s how young people think. Our cynicism about our politics has led to cynical politicians. If you tell a child that he is bad, he will become bad. If you tell politicians they’re a bunch of selfish lunatics, what’s the point of trying to be anything else?”

Moffat’s next TV drama tackles the issue of cancellation culture. Douglas was cancelled sees a TV presenter face the wrath of the gang after pulling a prank at a wedding. Moffat said he found the theme of the terror of cancellation interesting:
“I think there is a certain level of nervousness about the cancellation. I don’t know how much we will continue to fear cancellation if someone bombs us. If someone can be canceled, they are a good person. You can’t cancel Hitler or the Yorkshire Ripper, you can only cancel someone who cares about his reputation and has a conscience.”
