James Cameron saved  million on Titanic set thanks to short casts

Titanic director James Cameron told the Los Angeles Times that they had to cast short actors as extras because in this way they artificially increased the size of the scene and the replica of the ship.

The entire budget for the filming of Titanic was $200 million, making it the most expensive movie by these standards. A large amount of money was spent to create the landscape and build a life-size liner. The recreated ship was no less than 50 meters shorter than the original.

But the camera has its own characteristics: sometimes it makes objects smaller when they are not necessary at all. Therefore, it was decided to turn to visual tricks. “We eliminated everyone who was taller than 172 cm,” the director said.
