In a Russian school, a student shoots another student and injures five others before killing herself

A student shot another student and wounded five others at a Russian school today before turning the gun on herself.

Officials said the 14-year-old opened fire with a pump-action shotgun and the attack reportedly took place in a classroom at the school.

She killed one student and injured at least five others, officials said, before killing herself at the school in the Russian city of Bryansk, police said Thursday.

Those who were involved in the attack on High School no. 5 injured were taken to hospital, with one – a boy – said to be in a serious condition in intensive care.

According to initial reports from Russia, the shooter’s name was Alina.

Photos of the classroom posted online showed a victim lying on the floor next to a pool of blood and a pump-action shotgun.

Other images showed blood spatter on the floor among scattered chairs, desks and a shotgun shell.

The alleged shooter was also in a photo that appeared to be a school photo. Although her face was blurred, she was a blonde in a white school shirt.

Russian officials confirmed the attack.

“According to preliminary investigative data, a 14-year-old girl brought a pump-action shotgun to school with which she shot at her classmates,” the Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement.

“Two people died in the incident (one of which was the shooter), five were injured and have now been taken to a medical facility.”

Investigators are working to determine a motive, the statement said, and a homicide investigation is believed to have been opened.

The pupils were evacuated from the school. Footage is believed to have been taken outside today showing them huddled together outside in the snow.

Regional Governor Alexander Bogomaz said: “Today a terrible tragedy occurred in gymnasium number 5 in Bryansk.

“One of the students carried a firearm into the educational institution. Two children were killed, including the girl who fired the gun.

“Five children were injured, two of them were slightly injured, three of them were moderately injured, all of them were taken to the regional children’s hospital.

“You will receive the help you need.” All operational services are active on the site.

Those injured in the No.5 gym attack (pictured) have been taken to hospital, with one – a boy – said to be in a serious condition in intensive care.

“We are working with law enforcement to investigate the circumstances under which the student was able to obtain and carry a weapon to school.

“My deepest condolences go out to the parents of the girl who died at the hands of the shooter. It is an irreparable loss. The families of the dead girl and the injured children will receive all necessary help.”

Bryansk borders Ukraine and the school is about 105 kilometers from the border.
