Let the people who didn’t laugh at TikTok videos during the pandemic throw the first stone at us. While Covid dramatizes our lives, the Chinese social network dedicated to short videos appears more than ever as a place of entertainment and escape that can save lives.

TikTok dethrones Google in the ranking of the most visited sites in the world
It is in this context of a prolonged pandemic that TikTok has just reached first place among the most consulted domains in the worldand therefore to dethrone the Google search engine, according to data collected by the web company Cloudflare.
In 2020, TikTok placed 7th in this ranking, a sign of enormous growth in popularity. This is the only non-US site in the ranking established by CloudFlare.
After Google in second place, we find Facebook in third, Microsoft in fourth and Apple in fifth. Then come Amazon, Netflix, YouTube, Twitter and Whatsapp, a sign of the platformization of the Web and the power of social networks.
How TikTok became one of the most visited sites in the world
From September 2021, TikTok claims over 1 billion active users, including many young people who may abandon other platforms. This Chinese social network clearly has it a growing influence on the music industrycapable of making careers take off overnight, like that of Doja Cat.
With its ultra-personalized algorithm and videos that are as short as they are captivating, knows how to make itself particularly compelling and could therefore soon attract other cultural industries, and invest more seriously in the political scene. Who knows, maybe even the 2022 presidential elections will be played on TikTok?
