The action epic from Apple Original Films and Sony Pictures currently has a five-day worldwide theatrical release of $70 million to $73 million, including $40 million at the international box office. If these numbers hold, they will significantly exceed the predictions coming into the weekend.
The Joaquin Phoenix star stormed eight foreign markets on Wednesday, including France and the UK (the latter taking place on an unusual Wednesday). On Thursday, Napoleon added 40 more markets, raising its outstanding foreign cume to $8.9 million in the first two days. The main subjects launched on Thursday were Oz, Brazil, Germany, Italy and Mexico – all release markets open so far Napoleon Today, Spain is on board, among others, to reach 56 hubs. Overall, this weekend will account for 85% of the international presence. The most important future markets include China and Japan on December 1st and Korea on December 6th.
The top markets are until Thursday Great Britain ($1.75 million), France ($1.74 million), Germany $530,000, Australia ($493,000), Italy ($447,000) and Mexico ($424,000).
Mature European markets are expected to take the lead.
