For once, these stupid cats won’t be able to show off. No, this time we give way to dogs, these good dads, who in addition to being among the best animals on Earth (exactly that) would allow the little ones not to develop, in particular, a particularly painful disease for those who carry it.

Dogs and Crohn’s disease
A study published by Mount Sinai Hospital and presented at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2022 shows that young children who grow up with a dog may have some protection against Crohn’s disease, a common inflammatory bowel disease.
Williams Turpin, MD, lead author of the study and research associate at Mount Sinai Hospital and the University of Toronto, said:
Our study appears to add to others that have explored the “hygiene hypothesis” which suggests that lack of exposure to microbes early in life can lead to a lack of immune regulation to environmental microbes.

According to the study, children who had a dog between the ages of 5 and 15 would have healthier intestinal permeability, reducing the development of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. The association between this healthy intestinal permeability, combined with the balance between the body’s immune response and the microbes in the gut, could help prevent Crohn’s disease, a disease that most often develops in young adults and whose symptoms include diarrhea , abdominal pain and weight loss.
Dr. Turpin further adds, regarding these stupid cats:
We haven’t seen the same results with cats, although we’re still trying to determine why. This may be because dog owners go out with their pets more often or live in areas with more green spaces, which has already been shown to protect against Crohn’s disease.

This is another good reason to adopt a dog for your children, don’t you think? On the other hand, we are not joking: we don’t adopt a dog and then abandon it, aware of the burden this entails, in the long run, we can never say it enough.
